Richard's Complex Medical Recovery Story at Heartland Health Care Center - Ann Arbor
Richard admitted to Heartland for skilled nursing and rehabilitation following his stay at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor due to hypoxic respiratory failure, a bilateral pulmonary embolism, an acute kidney injury and COPD.
“I told the staff at Heartland Health Care Center - Ann Arbor that it was my birthday the day I arrived and everyone on my unit and the front office sang 'Happy Birthday' to me as I was rolled in on the stretcher. When I first arrived, I was unable to care for myself and needed help for everything. I couldn’t transfer or walk. Cindy, occupational therapist, and Woody, physical therapist, evaluated me for treatment. Kathy, occupational therapist, and Julie, physical therapist, worked tirelessly to get me back on my feet. My road to recovery seemed impossible. My wife passed away in January, my best friend passed away in February, and I was mourning my losses. When I told my family about Cindy and Woody they reminded me that they have the same names as my wife and friend. These two were truly my guardian angels. Additionally, the nurses and aides were great. I am going home with my son on Sunday able to walk with my four wheeled walker, take care of myself, and I’ve lost over 75 pounds! I am so thankful to everyone that took care of me at Heartland.
I would recommend Heartland - Ann Arbor to anyone that needs a place to go for skilled nursing and rehabilitation." – Richard
