John, 79-years-old, was hospitalized after suffering a fall and a heart attack. He was admitted to Heartland Health Care Center - Canton (MI) for skilled nursing and intensive rehabilitation to regain his strength, balance and endurance.

"I admitted to Heartland - Canton and have really enjoyed all of the relationships I have made. My twin brother also came to Heartland - Canton and had a positive experience. From Emad, physical therapist, to Lashawna, social worker, to Sue and Anne Marie, occupational therapists, everyone has been kind and helpful. John, 74-years-old, was hospitalized due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Following his hospital stay, he was admitted to Heartland Health Care Center - Canton for skilled nursing and intensive therapy to regain his strength, balance and endurance.

"When I arrived at Heartland - Canton, I couldn’t walk without becoming tired. Even getting to the end of the bed or bathroom was exhausting. My balance was off and I wasn’t confident when walking. As soon as I met my physical therapists we created a plan and went to work. During physical therapy I was constantly encouraged by my therapists. Heartland got me stronger and I am less fatigued than when I arrived. Not only did my therapists tell me about the exercises I was doing and why it was important to continue to do them, but they also physically demonstrated each exercise. Heartland - Canton provided great services during my stay. Everyone always asked how I was feeling. They cared for me. "I love spending time with my family and friends. I was quite active prior to finding out I was having heart issues. My family and I couldn’t believe I needed open heart surgery as I felt great and was working out weekly. My cardiologist, Dr. Andrew Pruitt, at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital, did a wonderful job taking care of me. Post-surgery, we had to choose a rehabilitation center for my care. Many of our friends and community members recommended Heartland Health Care Center - Canton. My daughter, Kim, and our family also researched a place for me to go and we landed on Heartland. We are so glad we did! The staff is wonderful and the therapy at Heartland - Canton is great. The therapists worked to push me, encourage me and help me get back to my goal of living independently. Special thanks to my therapy team, Jen, occupational therapist, and Will, physical therapy assistant, for all of their help. Additionally, the center is clean, and the staff is positive and cheerful. I was treated like a princess! I was also very happy with the overall service, including the food. My daughter, Kim, is an excellent cook and was very impressed with Heartland’s meals, especially those prepared at their bistro. I’ve had an enjoyable time at Heartland in spite of the fact that I was there after heart surgery.
