At ManorCare Health Services – Imperial, Mattie, the pet therapy dog, has been making special visits to the residents through their windows. Mattie typically visits the facility weekly and has been popular among the residents and the community for over 6 years. She has been greatly missed during the quarantine, which made her visit extra special!
ManorCare – Imperial is also working with residents and their families using FaceTime to ensure they are able to see and talk with their loved ones. One resident was amazed to be able to see her daughter through the phone.
“We are also having milkshake deliveries and a coffee cart daily with tasty creamers. We are trying our hardest to keep the residents upbeat and positive during this time!” said Rebecca Merritt, Director of Activities.
"The therapists were very patient and encouraging at ManorCare - Imperial."Show More
First of all, we would like to express our appreciation to ManorCare Health Services - Imperial for providing services for Philip, our special needs adult son. During his health crisis, we became aware for the first time that not all rehabilitation facilities are willing to accept an adult client with special needs.
Overall, we were very pleased with the care that our son received and the physical progress that he made. The physical therapists and their assistants who worked with our son seemed to appreciate the information that I shared with them concerning our son's non-verbal cues and activities that interested him. This enabled them to choose activities that were helpful for his physical rehabilitation, but also "fun" (since our 25-year-old son functions on the level of a preschooler). The therapists were very patient and encouraging. They were all quite competent, but we were especially impressed by Ira and Betsy who worked exceptionally well with our son.
The CNAs who were directly involved in Philip's care were outstanding. They proactively communicated with us to learn more about our son's non-verbal cues and any special instructions. This made a huge difference in our son's care, and he responded very positively to them. He learned to recognize their voices in the hallway and would clap when he knew they were coming to his room. We highly commend the following CNAs for their extraordinary effort, positive attitude and genuine concern for our special needs son: Terra, Erika and Christina.
The meals at this facility were very good. Also, the dieticians worked well with us to put Philip on an enhanced diet that successfully helped him to gain back the weight that he had lost. Philip enjoyed the special events (particularly the music and parties).
