ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Whitehall Borough, PA) received a letter from a patient’s family thanking the team for all the care their mother received during her stay at the facility. The Howard family also made a donation to the ProMedica Here to Help fund.

“We are writing this final note to you and the entire team at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Whitehall Borough) with a full and grateful heart.

We cannot adequately express our appreciation for all that your employees have done to keep our Mom, Philomena, safe and healthy through the many years she was in your care. We are grateful for her long life and happy life and know without a doubt that the exceptional care she received at ProMedica contributed to her longevity.

While we know there will be hard days ahead, we are comforted by wonderful memories of her, many of them made at ProMedica.

We are so blessed to have all of you in our lives and will keep you in our hearts and prayers, as you will forever be part of our family’s history.

Activities Director, Alison Davin, at ManorCare Health Services – Whitehall Borough outside of Pittsburgh, worked with her local TV stations to help spread the word to potential pen pals for the patients and residents at the skilled nursing center. Emails began rolling in and Alison worked to put those letters and artwork on the center’s television system for everyone to enjoy. The center still continues to receive letters, artwork and pictures from as far as New Jersey. Alison says the residents have been able to respond to some of the emails. The facility also began to do virtual pet therapy by showing pet pictures that have been sent in on the television system.

Alison said, “The messages give residents hope to know that people are still thinking about them even though there is craziness in the world right now.”

Lorraine, a resident of ManorCare Health Services - Whitehall Borough, has always had a love for the Pittsburgh Pirates. She would ask Meredith, Activity Assistant at ManorCare, to help her put the Pirates game on the TV in her room after returning from the group activities. During these interactions, Meredith learned about Lorraine’s collection of Pirates artifacts hanging in her room and discovered her favorite player was Andrew McCutchen.

Meredith is friends with an employee of the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise and inquired about the possibility of obtaining an autographed picture as a special gift for Lorraine. She was able to get a framed, autographed photo of Lorraine’s favorite player, Andrew McCutchen.

When the ManorCare staff presented Lorraine with the framed photo, she said “you are going to make me cry!”
