24 of ProMedica’s skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers earned 2021-22 Best Nursing Homes status by achieving a rating of “High Performing,” the highest possible rating, for Short-Term Rehabilitation. U.S. News gives the designation of Best Nursing Home only to those homes that satisfy U.S. News’s assessment of the appropriate use of key services and consistent performance in quality measures.

Now in its 12th year, the U.S. News Best Nursing Homes ratings and profiles offer comprehensive information about care, safety, health inspections, staffing and more for nearly all of the nation’s 15,000-plus nursing homes. The Best Nursing Homes ratings reflect U.S. News’ exclusive analysis of publicly available data using a methodology defined by U.S. News that evaluates factors that it has determined most greatly impact patient and resident care, safety, and outcomes. This year, to accompany the new ratings, nursing home profile pages were updated to include staff and resident COVID-19 vaccination rates.

“U.S. News takes pride in providing relevant, up-to-date information when making any sort of health care decision,” says Zach Adams, health data engineer at U.S. News. “Profiles now include resident and staff COVID-19 vaccination rates alongside information on how to pay for a facility. This important information can help families, residents and caregivers make a decision that keeps safety and accessibility at the highest priority.”

The Best Nursing Home finder features ratings on both long-term and short-term care. The Long-Term Care Rating aims to provide prospective residents who need help with daily activities, and their families, with analysis and information regarding the quality of care provided by nursing homes. The rating includes data on staffing, success in preventing ER visits and COVID-19 vaccination rates, among other metrics. The Short-Term Rating incorporates measures of quality including consistency of registered nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing falls.

Gladys, a resident at ManorCare Health Services - Towson, recently had her Heart’s Desire granted to try her luck at Maryland Live Casino. She used to take trips one to two times a week to the casino with her beloved husband before he passed and had expressed an interest in going again with the ManorCare staff. Gladys was surprised to learn that this trip was also a family reunion and that her relatives, including her son (who lives in South Carolina) and grand, great and great-great grandchildren would also be attending the casino along with her!

The special day started with Gladys being pampered by getting her hair & makeup done and being photographed by a professional photographer. She was dressed as ManorCare’s “Queen of Hearts” wearing a beautiful royal blue gown, a queen’s sash that read “Queen of Hearts” and a jeweled crown. She made her grand entrance in ManorCare - Towson’s main lobby, where she was met by a crowd of family and staff supporters who cheered when she arrived. Then Gladys was assisted in her wheelchair down the red carpet. Transportation to Maryland Live Casino was provided by Bless Limo Services, who accommodated her with a beautiful stretch limousine vehicle to whisk her and her family away.

At the casino, Gladys specifically selected $0.25 cent a slot machine, reminisced about how her husband once won $200. She shared that her fondest memories of the day was playing the slot machines, spending precious time with her family as they rooted her on, riding in the limousine and of course eating her favorite food fried chicken at the buffet.

ManorCare - Towson was thrilled to be involved in lifting Gladys’ spirits as well as her entire family. This was a wonderful experience they will never forget.
